Guidance Counsellors

Hagley offers great support for those who need it. If you need someone to talk to, our Guidance Counsellors are there to help.

If you have worries about any issues facing you, family or friends such as money, stress, eating problems, alcohol and drugs, how to stay on at College, exam anxiety or anything else, our counsellors will be happy to talk with you.

Michael Gilchrist and Leanne Buchan are the College counsellor’s. If you wish to see a counsellor go to Simpson House between H2 and O Blocks. If a counsellor is available they can see you straight away, or you can request an appointment by filling in one of the appointment request slips.

Illa is the friendly face behind the reception desk when you enter Simpson House. She will make an appointment with the counsellor, supervise time out spaces or just be there for students for a chat. Illa also manages the College attendance process which involves notifying caregivers, promoting and rewarding positive attendance and developing strategies for non attendance.

To Parents

Kindred is a local organisation that provides support and mentoring for trans youth and their families.

Kindred will run a families group once a month here at Hagley College. This will be the core service from which all other support will build.

Effectively there will be mentors at each one of these groups ready for a chat about anything, we will also help facilitate discussions and information sharing between families.

There is no pressure to attend, you can drop in and out of this group as your needs and schedules require.

Occasionally we will have a bit more of an educational session where we will bring in specific members of the community to speak for part of this session as well.

There will be more education and support that will build off all of this however we are going to start with the families group and work out what else is needed from there.

As mentioned, we have some amazing people ready and willing to step up.

So, with all that in mind I would like to invite any parents/families to the first of the Kindred family sessions.

When:     Sunday June 24th 6pm-7:30pm

Where:    Hagley College – Simpson House (driveway entrance off Waller Tce)

Who:        All families welcome. If you know of any other families that would benefit from this please feel free to invite them.

Please don’t hesitate to contact Leanne Buchan with any questions or concerns.

Or you can contact founder/mentor Nick McMillan himself on 021 487 748
