Study Requirements

While we are known for being flexible, there are still some basic study requirements to ensure students are on the right track for success. As you move into the Senior College, your options become more open! See here...


Year 9

Year 9’s must take 6 compulsory subjects: English, PE, Science, Social Sciences, Maths, Health and Learning to Learn.

They will also get a taster for all modules. The modules run for 14 hours (seven weeks at 2 hours per week). These include: Art, Drama, Film, Food & Nutrition, French, Graphics and Design, Materials Technology, Media Studies, Music, Textiles and Te Reo Maori.


Year 10

Year 10’s must take 5 compulsory subjects: English, PE, Science, Social Sciences, Maths and Health.

They get to choose their modules. Year 10 students choose three or four options. These include: Art, Dance, Drama, Enterprise studies, Film, Food & Nutrition, French, Graphics and Design, ICT Advanced, Materials Technology, Media Studies, Music, Textiles and Te Reo Maori.


Year 11

Year 11 programme consists of 20 hours per week of learning across 5 subjects + 4 hours of a mentoring and well-being programme. Programme must include English, Maths and one Science subject.


Year 12

Year 12’s must study at least 20 hours per week and a maximum of 24 hours per week. English is compulsory but they can choose the remainder or their programme.

Part-time programmes can be taken only with individual authorisation.


Year 13

Year 13’s must study at least 20 hours per week and a maximum of 24 hours per week. Students can choose their programme, however keep in mind UE Approved subjects if you are considering going to tertiary study.

Adult

Adults may choose a full-time or part time programme (maximum study of 5 subjects/20hours). They must have, or be studying towards, minimum literacy and numeracy requirements.
